Flu Shot Side Effects

Flu Shot against Flu Virus

Doctors generally advice patients to get an annual flu shot if they really intend to defend against flu.  There is no need to be afraid of the side effects because they are mild by nature.  If an individual does not have any allergy, then he can go ahead and have the vaccination which would in turn protect them from flu.  Anybody above the six months of age can get themselves vaccinated.  The effect of the vaccine can be found only after two weeks. So it is better to have the vaccine prior to the flu season.

Many people worry about the flu shot side effects. People tend to think that the side effect of flu shot is to contract flu. But, in reality, flu shot does not gift any flu.  It certainly gives full protection from flu.  The side effects are minor and tolerable. Vaccination is the panacea to the problem of flu contraction.

Risk Groups

According to the reports from CDC, the following people come under the high risk category
- People above the age of 50
- People who involve themselves in nursing and other patient care facilities.
- Children, who are suffering with asthma.
- Adults and children, who suffer from lung disease and heart problems.
- Children and adults, who have chronic diseases such as diabetes, HIV, renal dysfunction and hemoglobinopathies.
- Teenagers and children, who undergo the long-term aspirin therapy.
- Pregnant women whose third trimester coincides with the flu season
- College students who live in hostels and employees of armed forces are prone to flu

Flu Shot Side Effects

- Flu vaccine is tolerable among most of the people across the globe.   People may get a mild fever which is likely to continue for 8-24 hours after getting vaccinated.
- The vaccinated skin surface might be red, tender and swollen.
- Some are likely to suffer from headaches and slight chills within a day but all the side effects vanish in the next 24 hours.
- If anybody is allergic to eggs, before receiving the flu shot, it is better to consult a physician.
- In very rare occasions, flu shot side effect constitute Guillian Syndrome, which is a severe paralytic disease. This was prevalent in the year 1976 when Swine flu vaccination was very popular.

Protective Medicines

If you are afraid of flu shot side effects, amidst an outbreak of Swine flu in your locality, then FDA has approved three drugs to save you from flu.  The drugs are helpful in decreasing the severity and length of the flu.  Amantadine, Flumadine and Tamiflu are the three drugs, which increase the resistance of the patient and reduce the strength of the infected virus.

My 5 year old daughter recieved her first dose of the h1n1 shot last month. Ever since then, she has been sick on and off. She has never been a sickly child. My brothers children are not going to be recieving the the shot, and they are doing just fine. And next week my daughter will be recieving the second dose of medicine. I didn’t even relize they were getting two doses of this shot.

I’m not sure if my problem is from the H1N1 shot or not but I did not have this condition till after the shot. My eyes are itchy and very sore and swollen this happened about24 hrs. after recieveing the H1N1 shot. Its been over 48 hrs now with this symptom. I’ve tried all the eye drops on the market, with little results. Like I said, I’m not sure if this is from H1N1 shot or not. Never had eye allergies this severe before.

I received flu shot on right shoulder on November 3rd 2010. November 11 my right shoulder began to itch. November 12 I began to experience numbness which has continued to radiate outward from the injection point. By November 13th my shoulder continues to itch and is numb as most of my upper arm. It is not a tingley sensation. It is though the skin cannot sense touch. It itches but I cannot feel it when I scratch it. Art
