H1N1 Virus – A Fatal Nemesis

The 2009 Flu Pandemic has globally affected the population. It’s the newly discovered strain of Influenza A virus that is causing the modified type of swine flu this year. The subcategory is H1N1 virus that incurs flu-like symptoms while affecting the body functions. Due to its widespread and contagious nature, it is imperative to understand the h1n1 symptoms for you. It will help you in taking immediate action and seeking medical help for yourself and your family.

The common cold and seasonal flu symptoms are overlapping with those of H1N1 virus. However, some or all of these may manifest in the infected person. Such h1n1 symptoms include: fever, headache, runny nose, sore throat, coughing, fatigue, joint aches, nausea, and occasional vomiting and/or diarrhea. Whenever you or anyone in your family experiences such indications of flu, be careful in your interactions. It’s necessary to be cautious because H1N1 virus is highly transmittable. As a precaution, call your medical health professional first before paying a visit. Also, preferably stay home unless you’ve been accurately diagnosed and treated for the h1n1 symptoms.

People with the weaker immunity, heart diseases, asthma, pregnancy, etc. are more at risk of developing a severe form of h1n1 symptoms. Also, population above the age of 65 years and younger than 5 years is more receptive of complications arising from swine flu. These complications may include sinus infection, and bronchitis, etc. Since the younger children are unable to explicitly express their condition, the caretaker must be extra vigilant and watch out for the signs like bluish tinge to the skin, sharp, short breaths, drowsy and inattentive attitude, lesser consumption of fluids, infrequent urination, etc. Such warnings signify that the child may be having a more severe form of flu, in addition to the seasonal flu symptoms.

The h1n1 symptoms usually recede within 2 to 3 days. However, in severe cases, this may last upto 7 to 10 days. And even after the symptoms are actively gone, the infected person may still be contagious for a period of 10 days or so. Hence, care must be taken in this regard.

You may wonder that h1n1 symptoms are actually from mild to moderate, with lesser casualty rate. So, why is there unrest among masses regard this pandemic. The basic point is that a new strain of virus is actually quite unpredictable. A simple mutation is the virus make-up can prove to be really fatal. So, intensive researches are underway to divulge more about the vaccination possibilities and controlling of H1N1 attributes.

- Lack of energy or tiredness
- Loss of appetite

If these minor symptoms are neglected, intense symptoms starts appearing. Minor symptoms prevail for one to three days. The following symptoms are considered to be the severe symptoms:

- Appearance of Glands in the neck area
- Fever
- Severe sore throat

The above condition worsens the health of a person and consulting a doctor becomes inevitable at this stage.

Other Mono Symptoms

Temperature raise to 102 – 104 F is quite common. Red throat, tonsils and swollen lymph glands in the neck portion are common signs of this disease. White coating appears on one third portion of the tonsils. The enlargement of spleen and liver are the other symptoms of mono. Very few patients develop red rashes on their body like measles.

Diagnosis of Disease with the help of Mono Symptoms

Though the symptoms are helpful for the confirmation of the disease, blood test is also essential to know about the severity of the illness. Monospot and heterophile antibody tests are the specific tests that prove the existence of mono disease. These tests are helpful in finding the presence of measurable antibodies, which can fight against EBV. The antibodies can be found only after two to three weeks of the illness. But the blood test exhibits the function of liver, which in turn is very useful for further treatment.

Causes of Mono Symptoms

The blood lymphocytes escalate and cause mononucleosis. The dreadful EBV is the cause of this disease across the world. Naturally our body’s immune system develops antibodies, which are efficient in fighting against EBV. In U.S.A. almost 95% people get infected by EBV in an year. When an individual reaches adulthood, normally the antibodies tend to decrease in blood. This situation makes him prone to EBV.

EBV can affect any person at any time. Adulthood is the stage where people get infected by the virus. It was discovered that mono symptoms affect the people at the age of 15 to 17 very badly and this is considered to be the peak season.

Though it affects people of all age group, children are affected lesser than adults. Adolescents and young adults are prone to this disease. Mono can transmit through saliva from one person to other. So it is otherwise known as kissing disease.

Streptococcal bacteria are responsible for the infection of strep throat, a contagious disease. The common strep throat symptoms are swelling in throat and tonsils, fever, pain and redness in throat. This infection is capable of showing up severe or mild symptoms in patients.

Strep Throat Symptoms in School Children

School-going children, teens and adults get this disease frequently and quickly. When all the children are residing in enclosed areas, the bacteria can spread easily by coughing and sneezing. The bacteria stay in throat and nose of the individual. They transmit infection to other children while playing, shaking hands and sneezing. The infection is capable of spreading by touching the solid particles such as books, tables and other hard areas handled by the affected person. If viruses cause sore throat, it does not require any medication. It improves on its own without providing any treatment.

Causes for Strep Throat Symptoms

Streptococcus pyogenes is a group A streptococcal bacteria that causes strep throat. The organisms can get transmitted from person to another easily. It has been found in laboratory tests that the bacteria are efficient in creating enough damage to red blood cells.

Strep Throat Symptoms

The symptoms of the infection reveal within three days of time since exposure. In the initial stage, red and white patches become visible in the throat. You can also find that the tonsils increase in their size. The enlarged tonsils contain pus and white covering is often visible on the tonsils. Swallowing food becomes difficult in this situation. The appearance of tender, swollen lymph glands on the sides of the neck is also common. Other common symptoms of strep throat are abdominal pain, fever, headache, uneasiness, nausea, appetite loss, stiffness in joints, muscle pain and skin rash.

Treatment for Strep Throat symptoms

The severe pain in throat creates difficulty in gulping the food and fluids. This requires immediate attention. Fever obstructs the intake of food and makes the body weak. The patients are advised to take plenty of fluids to support the body’s water content. In such scenarios, take complete rest and avoid strain for your body. Select the fluids, which contain water, sugar and salt in correct quantities to drink. Sugar containing fluids are helpful in absorbing the contents rapidly. Do not take caffeine for this may cause water loss.

Throat lozenges provide comfort to throat in mild cases. Gargling with salt and warm water gives comfort to some extent. Herbal tea provides significant relief for sore throat and throat pain. Pain relievers also can be taken to reduce the pain. Complete rest can promote quick recovery.

Prevent Food Poisoning

As I am working as a Marketing Executive, I am forced to tour outside my town most of the time and I am pushed to eat in restaurants very often. The circumstances are unavoidable and it gives great inconvenience for me. Though I know very well that I am taking a lot of risk by eating outside, I am forced to opt for it due to the fatigue that I often suffer from at times of hunger. When we cook in our kitchen for ourselves we prepare the food with a lot of care. Cleanliness can be maintained. But we cannot expect the same cleanliness and carefulness in the hotels, where they prepare food for many people. At restaurants, the food is handled by many. As a result, I have to take whatever is offered.

Food Poisoning Symptoms

The symptoms of food poisoning that are very common includes diarrhea, vomiting and stomach cramps. The energy level comes down and you do not feel comfortable at all. Such a situation persists for one or two days. Only after that your system returns to normalcy.

Variations in Food Poisoning Symptoms

Normally reactions due to food poisoning prevail for only one day, so it is also known as 24-hour stomach virus. The symptoms depend upon the metabolic rate of the individual. The food that causes problem in one individual may not interfere with the other person’s metabolism at all. This confuses the actual cause of the health problem. The food borne-bacteria affect different persons in different ways the body resistance and immunity of a person accounts a lot when it comes to defending against food poisoning. The way in which your body handles the bacteria results in mild or serious damage to your health.

Ounce of prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

If you want to avoid food poisoning symptoms to pop in and affect your daily routine, follow the simple but easy instructions discussed below.
Selection of food: Canned foods, meat, dairy produce are the common sources of food poisoning. Meat has to be washed properly if you want to keep away from food poisoning. The expiry date of canned foods has to be checked every time you buy them at your local mall. Never purchase a product with dent. Dent can cause contamination in the food. Do not neglect the warning of FDA for safety purposes.
Maintain perfect temperature: When you store things in refrigerator, remember to keep it in proper temperature. Eggs, dairy products and meat require special attention. The freezer should be set to zero degrees Fahrenheit and the refrigerator has to be set between 37-40 degrees.
Washing habits are good: Wash your hands before starting your cooking at home. Wash your hands immediately after touching different food items. After handling the meat wash your hands before you get in touch with the other food items in the kitchen.
