Stomach Flu Symptoms

Get to Know the Fast Relief from Stomach Flu

Stomach virus or Gastroenteritis is otherwise known as stomach flu.  Diarrhea is the major symptom of stomach upset.    The other stomach flu symptoms such as vomiting and feeling comfortable when stuck in toilet for long hours make a person get upset.  Everything happens due to viral infection.

Causes of Diarrhea

Rotovirus plays a leading role in diarrhea.  The children under the age of 5 are getting affected by this virus and suffer for 5-7 days. This is usually accompanied by fever and pain in the stomach.  Adults can escape within 1-2 days from this type of virus.

Calicivirus is also a culprit in the stomach and affects all age group of people.  The virus causes vomiting, body ache and tiredness along with diarrhea.
Children under the age of two suffer from stomach flu due to Adenovirus.  Diarrhea and vomiting accompanied with body pain are the symptoms of this disease.
Astrovirus affects all age group especially those with reduced body immunity.  It breeds well in winter and the symptoms are visible only after three days.

Prevention is better than Cure

The virus is contagious by nature.  It is better to avoid sharing drinks, food and utensils with the person who is affected by stomach flu.  Vegetables and fruits grown in infected area and contaminated water can also easily pass the virus to the others.  Virus exists everywhere, but we should be careful and should follow clean habits.  Few do not getting affected by the virus, but they can pass the virus to others.  It is due to the body metabolism and resistance level of such individuals.  Some do get affected and this is common at nursing homes, classrooms and day care centers.  So, in such scenarios it is important that you take medications properly and be under complete bed rest to have a speedy recovery.

Treatment for Stomach Flu Symptoms

Dehydration is the most common of all stomach flu symptoms.  It is very essential to keep the balance of fluid level by providing the patient mild juices, sufficient water and electrolyte drinks often.  Avoid consuming dairy products, deep fry snacks, and caffeine, for this can aggravate the ailment.  Drinking alcohol should be postponed.  It is advisable not to take such things till the stomach completely gets rid of the trouble.  In order to get rid of the virus, we have to follow few clean habits such as washing the hands thoroughly before meals, after visiting the toilet and changing diapers for kids at home. Vegetables and fruits growing in infected areas and contaminated water also spread the disease to the users.  Good drainage system and proper sanitary methods can eliminate the arrival of this virus.

Get to know these intricacies and stay away from the virus to keep your body healthy for long.

how to differentiate food poisoning from stomach flu symptoms?

Differentiating both is tough and challenging. But, a discussion with your doctor can help. Uncontrollable dehydration, fever, fatigue and aches are associated with both.

If your symptoms have laated more than a week, you should SEE A DOCTOR. Something is VERY wrong if this has been going on for months and ‘messing up your whole life.’ GO TO THE DOCTOR. REPEAT: GO TO THE DOCTOR!!! Sounds like this is NOT simply the flu. You might have a parasite or something worse. I worked in hospitals, my mother is an RN and I strongly feel that this is not just the flu from your longterm symptoms.

I woke up one day with a fever, some sinus symptoms, and my glands were swollen that lasted 2 days then I felt like myself and all my symptoms were gone. About 3-4 days after that I was sitting down having some dinner when I started getting really dizzy and lightheaded, the room was spinning and my balance was off. After this happened I layed down and started to feel really bad stomache cramps followed by diarrhea for approximately 2-3 days. I am still feeling lightheaded…Is there anything I should be doing ? Can this be the Flu if I have no vomitting? Everything I have tried to eat causes the diarrhea to flair up, what do you suggest ? How long will these symptoms last ?

My wife and daughter went to Disney World a couple of weeks ago and my daughter picked up stomach virus of some variety while they were there. My wife got it from her two days later and it was the day they came home. 2 days later my younger daughter came down with it. About 5 days later I came down with it and am still dealing with some of the effects. My wife and youngest daughter experienced the most symptoms with vomiting, diarrhea, etc. where as my oldest who originally got it vomited twice with some diarrhea, but more so she slept a nearly a whole day and had chills etc. With me I had diarrhea in the beginning then it returned to normal bm’s but I also got the really bad shivery chills that come with the sickness and I only vomited a small amount of gatorade in the middle part of it. I am having normal bm’s and am eating but I still feel nausea and a heartburn type feeling that gets relieved when I belch somewhat it’s now been almost 3 days. I do feel better today but I usually am back to normal with this type of thing within 2. Am I more resistant to it? I was a crazy man for the week before I got it running around sterilizing everything in the house trying to keep the germs from me. Perhaps I was too resistant to getting it. I’m not afraid to throw up but I am freaked out wondering when and if it will get me.

Hi! I’m from Michigan too! and I remember that in my svhool we had to go through all these safety procedures. I think Gabriel Richard that closed, Pioneer High school didn’t.

Back to stomach flu, I got violently ill last night, and I suspect it’s stomach flu because 2-3 days before, I had a “cold” or something of the like.
I only threw up 2 times last night, it was every two hours, and had only one bout of diahrrhea. Just one. I haven’t thrown up since like 5 in the morning, and I had that one bout of diahrrhea about 3 hours ago
(I think I was a bit plugged up though, because I went to Cancun for five days, and not used to eating their meals)

I’m scared that what if during the night I get sick again? I don’t want to!! If I am fine right now, I feel pretty good, but I’ll still keep it light with the food, I just don’t want another agonising night of vomiting!!! It’s like my phobia!

I think I had this yesterday.. I was normal up till 4 pm. At that time, my stomach felt very empty and i knew something wasn’t right. By the time I got home at 5 pm, the war started and I was at the virus’s mercy. I had about 4 episodes each of vomiting and diarrea.. I also experienced severe cold sweats during the last episode.. I thought I was going to die.. just before the last major episode, i tooke a few sips of Gatorade, which I am sure triggered it..

The best thing to do is to lay down and just rest.. I also noticed that if I stayed up and walked around, i started feeling very weak and was going to faint because of all the fluids I lost. I also remembered to weigh myself right after the 1st episode and the next morning and I had lost about 7 lbs of fluids during the whole ordeal!! I caught this once, it was the worse experience of my life.
Not only was it coming out of both ends, but the constant belching and my breath smelled like rotten eggs. It tasted so horrible that I’d blow it out as fast as I could, then it was brought to my attention that everyone around me could smell it too. I was like a busted sewer pipe and it lasted weeks. Walking too fast or hard was painful, I could only eat plain rice.

The worse part was not being able keep down liquids and the dry heaving.

One other person that had it, well, it took awhile for him to get completely over it. I wonder if, after the experience is over, the shock lingers in the body and continues to make one feel ill. I just wonder because I felt like I was having deja vu for months after. I would think about what I felt, or would eat something, and it would make me feel ill again.

Sort of like getting drunk and not being able to drink for months after.

My 3 year old has this stomach virus, how long could he have this? he has had it since tuesday. I am praying no one catches it so far no one has. we have sprayed the house down with lysol every chance we get when he is around the house. And everyone has been santizing their hands. Especially me since i am the one taking care of him. With me around him how long could it take for me to be safe to not catch it? I really don’t want this virus again I had it once it was horrible. But I have a one year old too I pray he doesn’t catch it either. I’ve kept him away from his brother as much as I can. I clean his hands every chance I get. Is the lysol spraying and hand santizing going to help prevent us from catching it? the only person that doesn’t wash his hands alot is my husband.

To get rid of stomach flu symptoms, is to eat every day fruits. I will recommend you to 2 pieces of banana (Musa sapientum) because it contains 12 nutrients that is good to our digestive system. In addition to bananas, if you have experience stomach flue you can get medicine coming from your spice rack in your kitchen. You can use a clove of garlic to as a medication of your stomach flu. How does garlic be a medicine?

First, pound the garlic using your mortar and pestle, and then boil it in boiling water. The hot water with clove garlic will be juice drink as a cure in your stomach flu. It really helps a lot. Try it in your own home.

Hi, my son vomitted for 5-6 times and had diarrhea only 1 time in a day. Doctor said that he has stomach flu. The next day he did not vomit and had no more diarrhea. His stool is soft (not watery) on the third day and there is also no more vomitting, he is behaving very normal. Today is the fifth day and so far he is ok, full of energy and jumping around. Is he still contagious?

Hey all you people out there with that stomach virus. im here to comfort you to the best of my abilities. I too once had the stomach flu, a violent out burst of vomiting and diarrhea. I really feel for you people cause I know exactly what u went through. My first night puked about 4 times and constant diarrhea. and for about 5 days on ward solid foods were troublesome and the diarrhea continued but usually the vomiting last only about 4 or 5 hours with one good vomit about hour or hour and a half. What you need to do during this time is drink Gatorade for electrolytes and hydration. Dry crackers or toast to put some nutrients and fiber into ur system. And a few miracles that helped me recover were broiled chicken cutlets in lemon juice with just a dash of salt and pepper and a piece of toast. The chicken should be very thin and easily digestible and lemon juice helps digestion. Also after so much purging good bacteria in ur stomach is gone so to replenish that and get ur stomach functioning correct yogurt has exactly what u need. I got mine with little pieces of fruit in it so it wasent completely bland. Your stomach will greatly appreciate this. And lastly i had access to peppermint tea(peppermint candy might be affective as well, at least it will clean up vomit breath). peppermint soothes upset stomachs. This is all I have to share with you you can drink un carbonated ginger ale or coke a cola to un-carbonate put a straw in the cup and blow till the bubbles stop may take a min or two. Also try breaking ur cold, get in sweat pants a sweater and a wool hat then under a quilt and sweat even it ur uncomfortable. Also i have a theory that if u take a cold shower before the sweat section this will speed up the process seeing as ur sick bodies heart rate is beating probably very low because you’ve inactive for a while so the cold shower will force your bodys heart rate up rapidly to keep you from freezing. So hop out the shower (if ur shivering from the intense cold thats good) then dry off throughly and hop under the blankets quick. Put on a show that makes u laugh or is utterly ridiculous i like spongebob. Then rest ur little heart away. I hope this helps anyone who reads it and excuse my grammer im only 17 but i deeply feel for anyone who has to experience this awful sickness

my grandmother got the stomach flu a few weeks ago. dr gave her antibiotics but didn’t help. she ended up getting worse & we brought her to our place to take care of her. at the start it was mainly pains in the back upper body, then breathing trouble, gas burning in stomach. then all of a sudden severe green diarreha started + being very weak & disorientated. after 5 days of hardly eating she eventualy threw up green fluids. we had to have her hospitilised, it has entered her blood & they have to clean it out. blood test results came back as salmanella virus. her GP did blood test a few days before but found nothing???

me & my sister have now got it but not as bad. started the next day after she left for hospital. same symptoms, pain in upper back & top of arms, heavy head, headache at back of head, weak, diaheria, sweats. cold air makes it a lot worse. have been given atibiotics Bactrim DS & taking good bacteria to fight the bad. seems to be very contagious so be careful.

I suffered 2 long weeks with stomach flu caused by a Camplyobacter food poisoning. It was hell.

It started on a Saturday night. I felt a sharp pain in my stomach and was unable to walk properly. I was feeling nauseous and lost my appetite. I tried to eat some food, but my stomach got even more painful and bloated.

The next day, I began to wonder if it was a bit more than a stomach bug. I felt rotton, although the diarrhoea had not even started yet. My stomach now ballooned and was so sensitive, even if someone brushed their hand on it, it ached. I still didn’t want to eat anything and I found it hard to sleep in a comfortable position.

Monday and Tuesday, my condition got worse. Diarrhoea had now started very badly. I would run to the toilet, and 15 minutes later I needed to get up again, and the motions made my stomach ache and hurl, often leading to me vomiting up bile at the same time. All I could manage to eat in these two days was one slice of dry toast, which still aggrevated my stomach.

Wednesday and Thursday, condition showed no sign of disappearing and only got worse. I felt no emotion, and was so tired all I did all day was sleep. I couldn’t talk, because it hurt my stomach. Sitting up made me feel dizzy and light headed. I still wasn’t eating anything at all, and drinking very little because now even water made me feel sick. I had to do 2 A Level exams during these days, in which I couldn’t think clearly or logically, then gave up half way through and fell asleep.. my eyes just fell with exhaustion. I left my exam on Thursday, and headed straight to the doctor who predicted stomach flu, but took a faceal sample to be sure.

Friday.. worst day ever. I now couldn’t lie down straight or sit up completely. My muscles ached everywhere and I just sat in a daze the whole day, unable to think.. all I did was sleep. I began to go off water, and hadn’t had food in around 3 days. I was so weak, even moving across the room was a struggle, and standing straight meant my stomach felt like it was being stabbed so I had to walk bent over, holding my stomach tight. That evening, I collapsed and nearly fell down the stairs because I was so weak. I got taken to hospital, where I was told I had dehydration with an extremely rapid heart rate. I was told to drink 3 litres of water minimal, and if I still refused to drink overnight, I would have to be admitted to hospital.

The weekend pretty much stayed the same as Friday, then Monday, my sample came back signalling food poisoning by a Camploybacter bacteria. I was given a 5 day course of antibiotics straight away and started taking them that day. As soon as I started taking the antibiotics, and practically forcing myself to drink glass after glass of water, some symptoms started to disappear.

However it took until late Saturday night, 2 weeks after being contracted for the bacteria to completely leave my body and a further week to gather back my strength. And I even have a small scar on my tummy on the bottom right, where a carpet-burn like mark appeared when I was bloated.

I pity anyone who gets this.. wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy!

Relief from stomach flu would be faster if you know what caused it. Just because it is quite common for people to experience stomach ache from what they ate or other causes, we take this for granted – which is wrong. The symptoms shown by our bodies tell us there is something wrong with our internal organs and if common remedies do not work, you need to consult the doctor for better diagnosis.

    Hi,

I came down with a stomach flu 1 month ago thought I was going to die. It lasted about 2 days. After that i got this strange cold sensation on my legs and no matter what I did it would not go away, as if someone smeared my legs with peppermint. I called my GP and he told me that this sometimes happens with flu that it messes up with your peripheral nerves. After about a week it went away. Now I seem to have diarrhea again on and off for 10 days and the same cold sensation on my legs. My stomach feels like it is burning and i have bitter taste in my mouth. What could this be ? Is it really a flu or something else? please help!
