Stomach virus or Gastroenteritis is otherwise known as stomach flu. Diarrhea is the major symptom of stomach upset. The other stomach flu symptoms such as vomiting and feeling comfortable when stuck in toilet for long hours make a person get upset. Everything happens due to viral infection.
Causes of Diarrhea
Rotovirus plays a leading role in diarrhea. The children under the age of 5 are getting affected by this virus and suffer for 5-7 days. This is usually accompanied by fever and pain in the stomach. Adults can escape within 1-2 days from this type of virus.
Calicivirus is also a culprit in the stomach and affects all age group of people. The virus causes vomiting, body ache and tiredness along with diarrhea.
Children under the age of two suffer from stomach flu due to Adenovirus. Diarrhea and vomiting accompanied with body pain are the symptoms of this disease.
Astrovirus affects all age group especially those with reduced body immunity. It breeds well in winter and the symptoms are visible only after three days.
Prevention is better than Cure
The virus is contagious by nature. It is better to avoid sharing drinks, food and utensils with the person who is affected by stomach flu. Vegetables and fruits grown in infected area and contaminated water can also easily pass the virus to the others. Virus exists everywhere, but we should be careful and should follow clean habits. Few do not getting affected by the virus, but they can pass the virus to others. It is due to the body metabolism and resistance level of such individuals. Some do get affected and this is common at nursing homes, classrooms and day care centers. So, in such scenarios it is important that you take medications properly and be under complete bed rest to have a speedy recovery.
Treatment for Stomach Flu Symptoms
Dehydration is the most common of all stomach flu symptoms. It is very essential to keep the balance of fluid level by providing the patient mild juices, sufficient water and electrolyte drinks often. Avoid consuming dairy products, deep fry snacks, and caffeine, for this can aggravate the ailment. Drinking alcohol should be postponed. It is advisable not to take such things till the stomach completely gets rid of the trouble. In order to get rid of the virus, we have to follow few clean habits such as washing the hands thoroughly before meals, after visiting the toilet and changing diapers for kids at home. Vegetables and fruits growing in infected areas and contaminated water also spread the disease to the users. Good drainage system and proper sanitary methods can eliminate the arrival of this virus.
Get to know these intricacies and stay away from the virus to keep your body healthy for long.

I’m recovering from Stomach Flu - day 3 is today. Day 1 was a nightmare:threw up at work 3 times,2 times on the way home, and 3 more at home. I couldn’t keep any liquids down. The night of the day one was no better - tossing in bad from pain in bones & muscles. Day 2 felt so week as if someone took 40 years of my life and I’m only 27. Today I’m somewhat fine! Don’t wish this on anybody Stomach Flu is the WORST!

I just contracted the stomach flu which my daughter got from school. I thought it was just her having some type of food poisioning. After two days and her having the same symptoms I knew it was something else. Now I have stomach cramp, nausea, and feel light headed. I also have thirst. These are just my symptoms. I do feel an onset of diarrhea but as of yet nothing. Just some FYI.

I woke up one day with a fever, some sinus symptoms, and my glands were swollen that lasted 2 days then I felt like myself and all my symptoms were gone. About 3-4 days after that I was sitting down having some dinner when I started getting really dizzy and lightheaded, the room was spinning and my balance was off. After this happened I layed down and started to feel really bad stomache cramps followed by diarrhea for approximately 2-3 days. I am still feeling lightheaded…Is there anything I should be doing ? Can this be the Flu if I have no vomitting? Everything I have tried to eat causes the diarrhea to flair up, what do you suggest ? How long will these symptoms last ?
