Strep Throat Symptoms

Streptococcal bacteria are responsible for the infection of strep throat, a contagious disease.  The common strep throat symptoms are swelling in throat and tonsils, fever, pain and redness in throat.  This infection is capable of showing up severe or mild symptoms in patients.

Strep Throat Symptoms in School Children

School-going children, teens and adults get this disease frequently and quickly.  When all the children are residing in enclosed areas, the bacteria can spread easily by coughing and sneezing.  The bacteria stay in throat and nose of the individual. They transmit infection to other children while playing, shaking hands and sneezing.  The infection is capable of spreading by touching the solid particles such as books, tables and other hard areas handled by the affected person.  If viruses cause sore throat, it does not require any medication.  It improves on its own without providing any treatment.

Causes for Strep Throat Symptoms

Streptococcus pyogenes is a group A streptococcal bacteria that causes strep throat.  The organisms can get transmitted from person to another easily.  It has been found in laboratory tests that the bacteria are efficient in creating enough damage to red blood cells.

The symptoms of the infection reveal within three days of time since exposure.  In the initial stage, red and white patches become visible in the throat.  You can also find that the tonsils increase in their size.  The enlarged tonsils contain pus and white covering is often visible on the tonsils.  Swallowing food becomes difficult in this situation.  The appearance of tender, swollen lymph glands on the sides of the neck is also common.  Other common symptoms of strep throat are abdominal pain, fever, headache, uneasiness, nausea, appetite loss, stiffness in joints, muscle pain and skin rash.

Treatment for Strep Throat symptoms

The severe pain in throat creates difficulty in gulping the food and fluids. This requires immediate attention.  Fever obstructs the intake of food and makes the body weak.  The patients are advised to take plenty of fluids to support the body’s water content.  In such scenarios, take complete rest and avoid strain for your body.  Select the fluids, which contain water, sugar and salt in correct quantities to drink.  Sugar containing fluids are helpful in absorbing the contents rapidly.  Do not take caffeine for this may cause water loss.

Throat lozenges provide comfort to throat in mild cases.  Gargling with salt and warm water gives comfort to some extent.  Herbal tea provides significant relief for sore throat and throat pain.  Pain relievers also can be taken to reduce the pain. Complete rest can promote quick recovery.

The cause of these signs and symptoms could be a virus, tonsillitis or other illnesses. That’s why your doctor generally tests specifically for strep throat.

A sore throat can be a symptom of many different medical disorders. A true streptococcal infection of the throat often leads to excruciating throat pain accompanied by difficulty swallowing and even speaking.

I’m suffering from a terrible case of strep right now and am having dreams that are so real like. Is this a normal side effect? This was even going on before I went to the doctor and started getting on antibiotics. Any secrets that really work to ease the pain long enough to get some food and drink down?
