What should you eat when you have a stomach virus

“Anytime if you vomit, you need to let your stomach rest for at least six hours, preferably eight hours before you try to take anything in….when you finish that time, take in clear liquids to start, things like water, apple juice, jello, BRAT diet as bananas, rice, plain white(no butter or spices),applesauce with no sugar, toast and plain with no butter. Do that for another 24 hours, then start eating yogurt, at least three times a day, to replace the bacteria in your intestines that the virus will have wiped out.

I have just had a stomach virus with vomiting and diarrhea. I have had a large amount of stomach gas with belching and acid indigestion.
What is the cause and what is a good remedy? I’ve been fortunate to not have a stomach virus in more than ten years, so my knowledge is lacking.
