How the common cold affects the respiratory system

Common cold is a viral infection. Common cold virus affects the cells of the lower respiratory tract. Since these cells collectively serve the function of respiration, when your body is infected with a cold virus, you will have symptoms like chills, runny nose, fever and congestion of the nose.
